Hello everyone,

I am doing a BWP for the first time.  i installed a easy version.  I have killed Sarevok and have returned to palace.  When I am being teleported, I am getting a error of Assertion failed chVideo cpp at line number 8641 and game is locking up.  Any ideas on how to fix?  Thanks

First of all, this is not "official guide", and I don't want to force anyone to use this setup. Consider this an advice on "how not to break your game completely" with super-items, huge EXP gain, imbalanced enemies, bugged mods and the likeIt's my opinion on some of the hundreds of mods I played and would/would not reccomend.
I've been a fan of Baldur's Gate series for over 10 years, somehow always going back to playing it (still the single best
game ever made, sorry Dragon Age), so I played quite a few mods.
This below can include slight spoilers, not wrapped it tags.

Anyhow, I went through BWS and these are my reccomendations on what to install and not to install.
Note, this is for players who want decent amount of content and minimal bugs/crazy items and enemies etc.
If you want a "real megamod" install whatever you like.
This isn't made to offend anyone - it's my preference/opinion, altough backed up by experience.
My hope is this might help players choose exactly what to install with BWS, without ruining their game
and wasting another 6 hours re-installing from scratch.

BIG BG1 MODS

Skip them all. Broken, outdated, imbalanced in XP gain and equipment which puts ToB artifacts to shame. Storylines
are decent, but the sheer stupidity of AI and the equipment (+6 shields and similar) available makes the whole game
far to easy.
One I'd "somewhat" play is Secret of BoneHill. Even there you'll find level 7 (or higher) scrolls however, so be warned
(I didn't play through it all, so I wouldn't reccomend it).

BG1 QUEST MODS

Here are some first decent options.
Ascalons Questpack - I'd go for it. Nothing epic, but you might try it out.
Mini Quests and Encounters - ok. Nothing much, but I'd play it at least once.
BG1 Unfinished Business - reccomended
Jarls BGT Adventurepack - it's decent. Install if you like.
Lure of Sirene's call - very small, but doesn't break anything. Install.
Grey Clan Episode 1 - exellent. It comes in 2 versions, if you don't want hard tactical content install "lite" version - I haven't played it however (I played only "normal"). Bit hard at times, but you have an exellent Readme/walkthrough available.
One of the best BG1 mods for me.
Stone of Askavar - so so. Not bad I guess, powerful equipment, decent challenge in battles. Install if you like, I met one bug fixable by CLUA (one area wasn't available for travel.)
Vault - I'm divided here. It has a lot of content, some powerful equipment, and for me, is very buggy. If you can get this to work properly, install. If you don't want to bother, skip.

BG1 NPCs

Only 2 here:
Finch
Ascalon's Breagar - this is bugged for me, but easilly fixable. I like him since he speaks German. Uses "f-word".
English translation is horrible, but stays with you for whole BGT. Custom kit (nothing fancy or OP), gets a +6 Axe
eventually. I'd take him at least once.
Most of the other NPC mods I didn't play, so can't comment on their quality.

BG1 NPC-related

BG1 NPC Project & Music - this is so good that it puts 99% of NPC mods to shame. Really, if you haven't played it -
you're missing alot. Highly reccomended, arguably the best NPC mod ever to exist. Makes me wish BG2 EE developers
hired these writers for banters.

BG1 TACTICAL

BGSpawn - skip this. Monsters beaming in from nowhere....(Orc Shaman : "Beam us down on Faerun, Scotty!"
Hard Times - I'd skip.
SCS - use v21 if you want, not v24. Or wait for v25. It can be hard and unforgiving, but I personally can't play
without it. Higly customizable, so you can choose what you want and not. Beware of installing SCS on top of
some mods which add enemies - you might get unexpected results (very high levels + decent AI).

BG1 FIXES AND TWEAKS

BG1 UB - install
BGT Tweaks - I like 2 options - major locations explored upon visit and exotic weapons for Taerom. Skip the others freely, or do as you please.
Hard Times - didn't like it.

BG1 STORES AND ITEMS

kTweaks - this is ok. Nothing overly powerful (altough, available a bit too soon) and a highly convinient Dart of returning
Lost Items - ok
TeamBG Armor/Weapons - skip. OP.
Thalantyr Upgrade - OP, but highly convinient stuff (Bow with no ammo and electric/fire damage, regen belt with
+1 strenght, dagger with poison/slow/extra apr)

Off to BG2:

BIG BG2 MODS

Skip everything.
(easy, eh?)
:)
Yeah, they're bad. They may have been good in 2005 (debatable), but standards are much higher now.

QUEST MODS

Again, several nice things here:
Alternatives - ok. Nice.
Assassinations - nice.
Back to Brynnlaw - nice.
"revised Hell Trials" in Dingo's QP - because vanilla handling of this is silly. I'd skip the rest.
Dungeon Crawl - bit OP robe (on par with Vecna!) but nice little mod.
Eilistrae's Song - ok. Minor Tactical content, a bit broken ability gained in the end. Do as you please. I'd play through it once at least, it's well written.
FFT - never played.
ISNF - ditto above.
Planar Sphere - highly tactical (if not apsurd). Breaks immersion of original game. High-end equipment. I'd skip it.
Innershade - so so. Install, it doesn't break anything, but it didn't do it for me.
Spellhold Gauntlet - skip.
Sylmar - skip. Unfinshed.
Tales of Anegh - I'd skip this. Bit silly.
Tales of the Deep Gardens - decent. Has an "out of this world" feeling but I guess that's the aim anyway. Nice rewards.
Bigg's Questpack - I'd skip.
SellSwords - nice, but quite short. Install.
Tortured Soul - I'd skip it.
White Queen - items gained are decently powerful, and (this could be SCS modifying scripts) you'll get Imprisonment
castings from enemies. It can be annoyingly difficult - again, this may be SCS modifications to enemy.
Not a bad mod, actually I was surprised by the quality of it.
Tower of Deception - for some reason, this mod usually comes as "highly reccomended". I don't like it. Has an item
which allows 2 spells per round, but it never worked for me....I'd skip.
UB for BG2 - I like Xzar's creations, and I'd skip the rest.
Vecna - skip this.

MINI MODS

Wheels of Prophecy is decent, others are not.

BG2 NPCs

Amber - decent. Not for powergamers (level6 fighter - thief dual with spears!?)
Angelo - nice quality, but I never liked him. The portrait, the sounds....honestly, after BG1 I'd kill him on sight.
Not bad, however.
Arath - last time I played with him, he had Bhaal innate abilities. I couldn't digest that so I never actually played him
through the game.
Arienna - she ok, but no ToB content unfortunately.
Auden - unfinished.
Auren Aseph - lesbian romance with Nalia....if it suits your fancy, go ahead.
Aurora - I'd don't play ToB-only NPCs, so.....
Aurora Shoes - it's fine (nice boots!) but you actually get quests installed as well. Why oh why?
Azure - don't install this. Really.
Beyond the Law - I didn't like. Archer has illegal proficiencies (yeah, so has Haer'dalis but he's cool and these 2 are not)
Biddlekolorak(or something similar) - iirc, 18/00 dwarf with a cool portrait. I never played him long. He probably
won't break anything, so I guess you can install him.
Branwen - there are 3 versions available....I don't like her in general, so can't comment on those.
Chiara - unplayed.
Chloe - I played with her once....and found her so annoying I let Kangaxx Imprisonment her. Skip this. Lesbian
cheese-kensai with 25 dex and custom OP-we-grow-in-power-to-+6swords-equipment.
Dace - last time I played with her installed, her sword set her attack to 0(!) apr...if this is fixed (or you know how to fix it) she seems decent. Lovely portrait.
Darian - looking for Aerie, and finished up barely talking to her...I'd skip, but it's a decent mod.
Drizzt - skip. Skip any mod with "Drizzt" in it's name, for that matter.
Fade - has a certain "puberty" appeal in it. No ToB content, otherwise quite explicit sexual content. I'd skip, but I know
many would not. It's decent, if you like PiDs and sexual content in BG2 I guess. I don't, so...
Fornick, Frennedan - skip
Ganesh - didn't play him yet. Could be good - half-orc socerer in Brynnlaw. I'd suggest you try it out.
Gavin - Decent, more adult oriented mod. Has a few powerful items in BG2. For me, he talks way too much and his family affairs are beyond my (very limited) patience. If you like a more "adult" romance option, you might like him. I didn't.
It's of high quality, however, and I like Priests of Lathander. If I could get him to shut up, he might work for me.
Goo - skip.
Haldamir - dual-wielding bastard sword oriented elf.. I never liked LoTR or elf fighters, but if you did you may like him
as well. At least it doesn't break anything, so you might as well try him out.
Horace - skip.
Hubelplot - I tried him, and didn't like it.
Isra - SCS makes the first quest very hard (I had to Ctrl-Y the mage, he summoned some blasted aTweaks modified
Frost Salamander) so be warned. Other than that, it's fine but the portrait used is, well, ugly. Install if you like
paladins.
Iylos - ToB only. I skip.
Kari - gay/bi/lesbo/buggedbeyondbelief Kobold from Hell. Don't use this, it's very, very bad.
Kelsey & Keto - both of these have gotten a LOT of praise during the years. I never found out why - neither of these
two NPC mods really got to me somehow. Could be the portraits, the talks, whatever - but I just
don't like them. I'd still suggest them, since if 100 people praise an NPC it's probably good, at least.
Kiara-Zaiya - skip.
Kido - nice. Evil Jester, really evil. I liked him. Reccomended. Bug-free afaik.
Kim - a wannabe pirate who dares insult Korgan...skip. I had him chop her to pieces and never regretted it.
Kindrek - skip.
Kitanya - I'd skip, but she may be decent.
Kivan and Deheriana - nice. ToB content isn't as good as SoA, however. Reccomended.
Lena - never played.
Longer Road - skip.
Lexley - 2 brothers, a monk and a custom kitted bard...I didn't like them, and never played them for more than an hour.
Install if you wish.
Maltis, Mawgul, Morham - skip.
Nathaniel - gay kensai with abysmal stats. For me, more than enough to never install this.
Neh'taniel - interesting concept, but he teleports to enemies in battle (at least he did when I played this.) I'd skip.
Nephele - seems ok, it doesn't break anything.
Ninde - if her buggy amulet has been fixed since I played this, you might try her out. If not, skip.
Petsy Chattertone - finally, a romance for shorties! And a cool portrait as well. Install if you're playing a shortie and
want some romance.
Quayle - not bad. Can be hard to aquire (may be SCS modifying the enemy script....or not) but decent quality.
Raziel -skip.
Rose - interesting concept, uber stats, and unfinished (sadly). I'd skip until it gets finished (if ever).
Saerileth - oh so noble 14 year paladin of Tyr from outer space romance which destroys "evil" loot, like Soul Reaver.
Needeles to say, I fed her to Mind Flayers. Skip, unless you're 12.
Sarah - a bit meh.
Sheena - skip.
Silver Star -skip.
Skie - didn't play.
Summon Bhaalspawn - skip this.
Swilyf Thicc - ToB only, I don't like that.
Tashia - old, but still an ok mod. Has riddles!
Undying - skip. When she speaks, a horrible sound plagues my ears.
Tiax - exellent. Reccomended.
Touchstone - meh.
Tsujatha - skip.
Tsuki - haven't played.
Tyris Flare - if you are old enough to remember Golden Axe (and owned a 286 PC once) you might like her.
Ok mod, one issue I have with her is her class (fighter-mage) which I hate. Iirc, undroppable set of armor.
Uldar - skip.
Vampire Tales - skip.
Varshoon - I don't know. He IS an Ilithid, you know. Haven't played him for long enough to make up my mind, but
seems interesting. I'll try him out one of these days.
Solaufein - aaah. SolaBola of cheese. Uber-cheese class (f-m), dual wields flail+long sword, high strenght and dex,
uber abilities, MR, and (if you don't know what to expect, but at least it's well documented) quite hard fight.
I'd take him at least once, since he's interesting and has nice banters. And a real classic, as well.
Valen - apsurdly powerful, if not outright broken.
Worgas - Wild mage with a Gauth familiar. Every spell he casts seems to be affected by wild surge....I don't know much
more, but you might want to try him out. Cool, cool portrait.
Xan - reccomended. Nice quests, and few banters which really warmed my heart.
Xulaye - never tried.
Yasraena - another of the dual-wielding drows...sigh. 18/80 or so strenght. I'd skip this, even the content I didn't find
of decent quality.

SMALLER BG2 NPC MODS

BG1 NPCs for SOA
(Skip the rest)
This is actually a very funny mod, so if you like "funny" try it out. Banters are nice, and turning that blasted Trademeet
into Dogtown is epic. If you're in for a more "serious" game I'd be careful with this, especially "Kagain's store with Crazy
amuont of magical items" - btw, they lack descriptions, which is bad. Also, NPCs aren't kitted which I don't like.

NPC RELATED MODS

Ascalons Breagar - install if you installed the NPC, I guess.
Banter Pack - this is nice. Reccomended, if for nothing than Minsc+Liracor banter.
Crossmod banter - nice mod.
IEP Extended Banter - install.
All "Friendship" mods - install
Sarevok Romance - nice, but suffers from same issues as Angelo - he wanted you dead, and now you romance him?
Romantic Encounters - it has it's moments if you like that kind of stuff. I don't however.
Skip the rest completely.

TACTICAL ENCOUNTERS

Ascension - do install this. It actually makes ToB into what is should be.
Big Picture - I'd wait for next release, when it gets sorted out. It somehow resembles a cross between "Tactics" and SCS I usually play SCS, but BP has several nice features (especially if you played old Tactics mod)
Butchery - haven't tried.
CoM encounters - skip.
DSoA -skip.
Quest Pack AI - well, better than vanilla. If you don't like any tactical challenge apart "mostly vanilla" this is what I'd
reccomend you install
DoD, D's odd Quest, Grimaurs, Improved Asylum, Oversight - skip these.
Revised battles - has some really tough (cheesy) battles, and some OP equipment. Not bad per se if you like that kind
of stuff, I don't but I'd reccomed you at least try few components (Master Brain, Wraith Sarevok)
RR (Chosen of Cyric) - both powerful equipment and decent AI, and exellent documentation. Nice, since you can skip
it alltogether via dialogue or make it easy by killing one of them before the real fight.
Reccomended. The loot is extra, so it may make the rest of the game much easier.
SCS - again, use v21. As for options, there is one really hard - improved Abazigal lair - so be sure to read the Readme
file before you install any compnent - you might get some fights which are much tougher than anything in
vanilla game.
Turnabout, Victor's - skip.
Tactics - outdated, but if you never fought Tactics Sahaugin you don't know what you're missing ("Swallowed whole"!)
Ritual part is nice, but the reward is easilly the most broken pair of boots ever made.
Ilych is a classic, but I wouldn't reccomend it (even if today, I find this battle to be very easy)
And Kuroisan, if you never tried this, since it's hilarious.

RULES AND TWEAKS

aTweaks - this is nice, but Elementals are quite OP so be warned about installing this particular part. Otherwise great,
reccomended, and documentation is phenomenal.
Tweakpack - Force dialogues to pause game, More Intrjections, Exotic Items, True GM, Unlimited Stacks, no Avatars
in Underdark, silence "You must gather....", consistent stats of NPCs
Skip the others, and do not, ever, install "faster cut-scenes" on BGT. It's a game-breaker and should be
removed from BWS.
Divine Remix - nice mod, an overhaul of cleric kits. Lacks a proper documentation piece.
Druid Kit Enhacements - ok mod. Shapeshifter is bugged (looses memorized spells) but if you can live with that it's the
most balanced shapshifting fix.
Dungeon-Be-Gone - I use it, but it breaks immersion in BGT.
Full Plate & Packing Steel - broken in BGT.
Igi's mods - convinient, but I'd skip them.
Improved summons - if you use SCS, you might want to try this, but I wouldn't reccomed it.
Randomizer - nice mod if you're bored with vanilla item allocation. Do not install with IR "Revised Stores" component.
Item Revisions - I'd say it's base component "Item Revisions by Demivrgvs" is incompatibe with most big mods (trust
me on this) but other components aren't, and they're quite good. Reccomedned, apart base - this can (and rest assured, will) make some fights in Megamod installs make very difficult. If you use, use with SCS AI.
IWDification- haven't tried.
Jarl's BGTweaks - nice. Install Gamesounds, special NPC items, and General Fixes, skip the rest (or not).
Level 1 NPCs - install just "List party joinable NPCs", and leave the rest for later; saves you trouble in the long run.
Lost Crossroads - this is nice mod. A word of warning - be sure to read Readme before you install this (you should do this with any mod, but this is a really tricky pony - some components can completely break AI scripts ). It will mostly appeal to PnP fans.
Psionics Unleashed - not bad, but Psionics never appealed to me, and I'm not sure how AI handles the new spells.
Rogue Rebalancing - I'd install everything apart Bard Spell Progression (level 6 is all my bards can cast, since the
class is brokenly powerful as it is)
Semi-Multi Clerics - OP. Sorcerers with Creeping Doom and Heal.
Song & Silence - RR is simply much better than this.
Spell Revisions - I'd reccomend this, especially with SCS (and do skip "fixes" part if you install SCS). Don't use with
SCSv24, you'll have CTDs.
Spell50 - apsurd.
Sword&Fist - skip.
TBTweaks - skip. Use ToBEx.
Refinements - I'd install "Revised HLA's" only.
Turambar Tweaks - ok mod. Skip "slow weapon disintegration", others as you wish - ok to install any.
WizardSlayer Rebalancing - ok mod.
Other Tweak mods I reccomend skipping.

BG2 STORES AND ITEMS

Just 1 single mod here worth mentioning (I may have forgotten some but....)
Daulmakan's Item pack. Not all components show up in BWS so after setup is finished run mod setup again to see
the remaining options. Some items are OP, but if I don't use Item Revisions I use Item Pack.

AI MODS

It's per personal liking. Avoid installing different AI mods together.

KITS

So much choice, here. Actually, it's simple.
Blackguard - decent if you like evil fighters
Conductor - even if I don't really like this kit, it's of decent quality wih a custom HLA table.
Divine Remix
NPC Kitpack - Sarevok and Mazzy (but be careful with Mazzy - it's a big change)
Spellshaper

Most of other kits I find UP/OP or just silly.

GRAPHIC

BGT NPC Portraits - this is great stuff.
Worldmap
IA Content - needed for some mods, and if you like BG1 avatars (I do) you might really like this mod.
1PP - lovely. It's in EE, so if you can make your BG look like EE why not.
Widescreen - if you like above 1024-768 resoultions. I don't.

Be sure to biff everything, run setup on Level 1 NPCs and go play.

Run BG2 SoA/ToB under Mavericks?

Hello,

If this has been addressed elsewhere, please point me in the right direction for enlightenment.

I just got a Mac Pro (my first Intel Mac), with Mac OS X 10.9.4 installed (Mavericks). I'd like to know if it's possible (and if so, how) to install and run BG2 on this system.

I don't yet have Windows installed on this computer, but I'm contemplating either Boot Camp or Parallels for that, and running Windows in virtual mode. Quite a bit to learn, as I've never attempted this before, but that's a separate issue.

Any and all advice welcome!

Thanks,

Eric

automatic game recognition and .tra files other than setup

Hi I want to make my mod to automatically recognize whether the game is an EE, so that literal children won't mess up their fonts. I lifted some code from Worldmap for it:

ALWAYS
  ACTION_IF ENGINE_IS ~bg2ee~ BEGIN
    OUTER_SPRINT tra_path ~arestorationp/language/ee~
  END ELSE BEGIN
    OUTER_SPRINT tra_path ~arestorationp/language~
  END

  DEFINE_ACTION_MACRO ee_lang BEGIN
    ACTION_IF GAME_IS ~bg2ee~ BEGIN
      LOAD_TRA ~arestorationp/language/ee/%LANGUAGE%/setup.tra~
    END
  END

  LAM ee_lang
END

LANGUAGE ~Polski~    ~polski~    ~arestorationp/language/polski/setup.tra~
LANGUAGE ~English~    ~english~    ~arestorationp/language/english/setup.tra~

does it work? sure, except only on the setup.tra. Worldmap has no other files so it's not a problem for them but it is for me as I have as much as 3 (three) tra files which right now don't work?! Neither AUTO_TRA ~arestorationp/%~ does anything, neither does manual pointing towards the file

Bigger fonts for Baldur's Gate

$

Hi. This is a bigger fonts mod for Baldur's Gate that I made for myself and I'd be happy if somebody else enjoyed it as well. I suppose it'll work for other IE games as well.

As you know, there are already 2 bigger font mods out there. Not to belittle the authors' efforts at all, but I never felt quite satisfied with them for 2 reasons:
1) They are way too big for my taste
2) They don't have the BG2/fantasy spirit in them (in my opinion anyway), stylistically speaking.

So I set off on a quest to find a font that would look like BG's original one and after days of font-hunting I ended up finding one that I truly like. It has some interesting features that are akin in style to those found in the BG font.

So, enough with the preamble! Now you can chose from 3 fonts and take whichever you like most. Here's a comparison:

http://rien-ici.com/wow/bg-fontcomparison-v2.jpg

bg-fontcomparison-v2.jpg

Now, if you happen to like some other font, here they are:

Ghostdog's mod: http://www.shsforums.net/topic/52452-bigger-fonts-mod-for-baldurs-gate-2/
Corvias' mod: http://www.shsforums.net/topic/38626-bigger-fonts-for-bgiitob-and-other-ie-games/

If you happen to like this mod, here are 3 font sizes to chose from:

Installation: Courtesy of ljbo  this is now a WeiDU-based mod, so just download Baldurs-Gate-Bigger-Fonts-Weidu.zip, unzip the contents into your BG2 directory and run the executable file.

In case you want to improve something or convert it to some other code page and whatnot, I've also included the .otf files in Baldurs-Gate-Bigger-Fonts-Non-Weidu.zip.
Special thanks to haen for his bam generator.

No ToB content. Wanna troubleshoot a bit?

Hey,
I had no Fade content in ToB, apart from minor "dialogs" (e.g when you have to defeat the army sent by tethir's queen). The problem seem to have hit me after I had the encounter with Gorion. Fade talked to me about keita, and we talked a bit, then she apologized because she didn't ask me what I was feeling. Then no more dialogues. I tried to force dialogue her, and I could ask her if she was still loving me, and she said YES.

So, something fucked up, definitely. Any chance you would like to troubleshoot with me? :D

Thanks for FADE TOB! :D

Read, obey and comment this, here.
Credits from my FAQ for the Megamods primarily go to The Imp that keeps pestering my mind all the time as it keeps finding solutions for problems the installs never had before, to Lollorian for the proof reading and other help, and to Miloch's for his work, as I copied some of his readme's, and of course to the other people that have commented in this thread. That includes you flinx, and why the second answer takes more than a forum  page on the FAQs for the Megamods.

Hi there everybody!

I have encountered some minor issues during last play. Due to their common context I put them in a single post:

1. Svirfneblin merchant Thernadle Daglefodd in the deep gnome village does not say anything on failed theft attempts. And one can try to steal as many times as he/she wishes (though I did not manage to steal anything with vanilla Imoen (thief/mage). I think due to low pickpocket skills). I noticed that after acquiring drow visage (though I play with "No drow avatars in Underdark" component from BG2 Tweaks) and defeating Barlog. I did not  try to steal anything from him before Adalon (i.e. normal form), so can't say if the behavior.was the same.

2. Carlog, the duergar merchant, after "drow avatars" does not have "steal" button. Maybe this is intentional and not an issue but it seemed strange, because without "drow avatars" the button was present. Drows do not steal, do they :) ?

Hope this description helps, if those issues are not connected to the mod, please, shed some light whom to blame :P

ADD_SPELL in spell mods

A discussion in the G3 Workroom about inclusion of mod-added spells in the sphere system of Divine Remix prompted a discussion about standardizing mod-added spell files so that duplicate spells do not occour and spells that do different things do not overwrite each other.

This is best explained through examples:
Mod A might introduce the 1st level spell "Curse" as SPWI124.spl. Mod B introduces the same spell "Curse" as SPWI125.spl. There will be two copies of "Curse" in the players' 1st level priest spellbooks.

An even worse case scenario might be: Mod A introduces "Curse" as SPWI124.spl. Mod B introduces "Sunscorch" as SPWI124.spl. The user is forced to choose between those spells, by installing one mod first and the other one afterwards.

The WeiDU function ADD_SPELL was introduced to remedy this issue: different versions of the same spell accross different mods will overwrite each other if necessary, without unintentionally overwriting another spell and without unintentionally using up extra slots. Since WeiDU v221, mods that use this function can be safely un/reinstalled without messing up saved games.

The versatility of ADD_SPELL allows us to agree on common spell names added in the spell.ids instead of common .spl resources (which is less compact and would be much more difficult to maintain). We do not have to worry about how many slots we spend unless some user has more than 99 spells per level on his/her installation.

This applies to spells that use the SPCL/SPIN/SPPR/SPWI prefixes. The benefits of these prefixes are: scriptability (RES actions do not cover everything), sorcerer/new-game spell selection, priest spells being automatically granted to classes that use them, and certain opcodes are hardcoded to these prefixes. Ascension64's ToBExtender erases the only disadvantage to using these prefixes: the spell selection screens and mage/priest spellbooks can display more than 24 spells per level.

We will have to:
a.) compile a list of spell.ids entry names (ie CLERIC_BLESS) from various mods
b.) agree on common entry names so we can generate a standard list
c.) convert old mods to use ADD_SPELL using entry names from the standard list
d.) ensure (for each mod author) that any other mod files take into account that the same .spl file might be different for each and every install

This does not apply to:
a.) spells/abilities with prefixed filenames that are unlikely to appear in any other mod (ie Quest-specific spells, spells tagged to a certain character, etc.)

The benefits:
a.) basic compatibility between different spell mods
b.) introducing new scriptable spells without worrying about what filename to assign, since ADD_SPELL does it during installation in an optimal way
c.) the inclusion of mod-added priest spells in Divine Remix's sphere system
d.) allows users to play with more robust versions of the same spell by installing more robust mods after less robust ones (ie SpellPack's Sunscorch will overwrite TDD's version of the spell)

You can read more about ADD_SPELL in Turambar's thread or the WeiDU Readme. SpellPack B6 (yet to be released) has already switched to using ADD_SPELL.

Notes, Oddities and Possible Bugs in My BWP Game (Spoilers)

Hi, this is MY experiences in wonderful world of  Leonardo Watson's  BWP.

This is ongoing topic from first BWP (well... at least first BWP that i have commented here) onwards.

I don't want to mess up my first post (it has historic value to me) so i decided to make "header" to were i update link to my current BWP's starting post. That post contains my current weidu.log and some additional information like bug fixed before starting and so on.

My current BWP install starts here.

Version: 13.0.1

Updated: 30.04.2014

==================================================================================

Below this starts my first BWP install which is obsolete now.

==================================================================================

Now that i have reach at end of SoA i though that i should share my experiences about my first real BWP install. There may have been other little problems but i don't remember those (I started writing this after i started chapter 6).

Note! This is BWP 9.1.2 and was made at end of May 2010. So this isn't most recent BWP install and some of the stuff in here are probably fixed already. I have no intention to re-install BWP every time when a new version is uploaded. It doesn't leave enough time for me to finish the game from Candlekeep to ToB. I always play the install to the end (only some very big game breaking bug that prevent playing is exception and i haven't encountered those so far).

These are possible bugs and at least oddities that i have encounter. Some of these have been probably reported earlier by someone else at somewhere? I cannot say that these are comfirmed bugs because i don't have any knowledge of modding. Some of these are probably random hick-ups in my local install or come from my unusual play style "Super NPC Switching".

Weidu Log:

Spoiler

Note! I use some mods that aren't in BWP. Mostly they are items mods. First is A Hero for All The Wrong Reasons it's Shed's entry to Iron Modder 6. I like the little mod and i had for years in my install. Then there is Moongaze's Crusader Pack Mod, Icendoan's Forum-Only Items, TrashMan's Holy Avenger Kit and Jamella's Diablo 2 Item Store.

BG1:

Angheg Farms AR8300: Problems with Gerde quest. Had to do some Global setting.

Secret of the Bone Hill: "Hand of Glory" quest problem. Had to SetGlobal("BHHANDSEARCH","GLOBAL",2). Also problems with Sir BillyBob because he's invisible (Staff of the Magi). Had do some CRE-files editing.

BG1 NPC: Problem with Dynaheir quest. Had to SetGlobal("X#DQDRIZZTSPAWN","GLOBAL",1).

Only little problems with transition to SoA.

BG2:

Imprison spell: If party member gets imprisoned it erases tooltip scroll (no name or hitpoints) have to repair with Shadowkeeper. If CHARNAME is imprisoned then CTD (i have this bug for many years). Thats why i always use Geirthan Plate or similar protection when there's a chance to get imprisoned.

Here's Baldur.err for the crash:

Spoiler

Rose NPC: If i kick her at BG2 she goes to Burning Wizard Inn at Beregost. Hard to get her back if i want to. Well it's beta Mod so i'm not going to take her to SoA unless mod gets some progress by modder.

B!Tweaks: Traveler's Stone doesn't work.

20h travel bug at Waukeen's Promenade (solved). Thanks to Wisp for fix and World Map Mod update. Topic here.

Solestia De'Luna NPC: Her cousins keep spawning endlessly at Copper Coronet. Also her meeting with cousins doesn't work due Global setting to prevent endless spawning. Well it's beta Mod and probably gone from my next install unless mod gets some progress by the modder. Fixed locally. Thanks to Turambar.

The Undying: 3 Ghost doesn't spawn at Graveyard at night.

Graveyard: Crypt (AR0807) Kiara-Zaiya NPC script-file overwrites the previous script-file erasing the items from Exnem Vault and CtB (Picking the Marks quest). Fixed locally. Thanks to Hoppy.

Exnem Vault: BCS script isn't set at Bridge (AR0503). Something is blocking script at Bridge (AR0505), Government (AR1007), de'Arnise Hold (AR1303) and Umar Hills (AR1103). Items doesn't appear at containers. I don't know cause for these problems but probably not Exnem mod bugs.

G3 Anniversary Mod: Poor Dewny has been unconsious over year and laying at kitchen floor at Five Flagons Inn at Bridge. Somebody should wake her up.

BP: I can't open the container at Horred's Lair (AR8050, x 1900 y 755) in City Gates. It contains Wizard's Buckler +2.

Lol's Rezmod: Mae'Var didn't have Mune +2 as a loot also Kangaxx didn't have Masa +2 or journal. Had to CLUAConsole. Probably BP and DO Quest Pack are overwriting Mae'Var CRE-file and probably BP is overwriting Kangaxx CRE-file, other items (from other Mod/s) are gone too.

Stuff Of The Magi: Kangaxx didn't have Boots of the Magi. Had to CLUAConsole. Probably BP is overwriting Kangaxx CRE-file other items (from other Mod/s) are gone too.

TDD: Montaron and Xzar quest required some Global settings.

No Branwen (BGT) and Yeslick (TDD) at Temple. Yeslick (TDD) problem is probably related to also installed Yeslick (BGT). Also problems with Shar-Teels (TDD) quest are also probably releated to this double install with Shar-Teel (BGT). I was wondering does these BGT add-on NPCs require that they are at party when transition to BG2 to appear at BG2. I don't know ?

de'Arnise Hold: Problems with TorGal spawning.

Ashes Of Embers: Bola of Web isn't at Adherent possesion at Druid Grove as readme states. Mod puts the Bola of Web in weapon slot and helmet slot then Cre-Fixer removes the item.

Ginpachi (Angelo NPC) CRE-file crash (i don't know the situation). Not Angelo NPC mod bug and i don't know what causes the CTD. Topic here.

Baldur.err for the CTD:

Spoiler

Area map isn't updated right at Docks after i get the thief stronghold. It says at area map "Mae'var Guildhall" and below it "CHARNAME'S Guildhall". It's extremely annoying. He He. tongue.gif

Small Teeth Pass: No dragons at chapter 2 or 6.

Tactics: North Forest meshed up by Tactics mod (overwrites actors in area). Shard Of Ice mod quest is broken. Well CLUAConsole helps to solve it.

Hessa NPC: Trade Way Merchant Camp Area (ARSU10) not in Worldmap had to CLUA:Console there.

Drizzt Do'Urden (RoT) and Charlotte (SoS) doesn't get priest spells (only empty spell slots) level 4 and up. It's just odd nothing more.

Escaped Prisoner quest (RoT): Tresham didn't spawn at Slums had to SetGlobal("THEFINMEWT","GLOBAL",1). Later i did find him also at Copper Coronet so i probably mess up the quest. I don't know which place he's supposed to be? I try diffently next time.

Stronghold quests: Problems with Firkraag (Revised Battles) spawning at Windspear Hills (AR1200) after the first battle at lair.

Fade NPC: Firkraak's Tooth missing from loot of Firkraag. Fade mod doesn't recognize that Revised Battles mod changes the Firkraag CRE-file to B#FIR02. (Had this in my previous install as well).

Stronghold quests: Last of the Helm's event (you prevent Talos attack against Lathander and then prevent counterattack) Talosians and Mistress Ada are hostile if you go to Temple of Talos after solving the quest. They probably shouldn't i don't know.

Planar Sphere Mod: After finishing "Finding Stolen Artifact" quest you come to AR0411 Belle talks to you. She says that she going to Map Room. But she never spawns at AR0411. Had to CLUAConsole her.

Some problems with compbility of Alternatives and Rogue Rebalancing mods. Gaelan Bayle didn't want talk about Arledrian in "A Missing Fence?" quest. Had to do some Global settings.

Wrong textscreens when going to TS Kara-Tur (same as RoT Icewind Dale Bremen) and going to Brynnlaw (same as ?). It's just odd and don't affect the game any other way.

Alissa (RoT) loses her experience and levels when she rejoins at Spirit Soaring (wrong cre-file?). Also Priest of Oghma and Alissa don't talk about Alissa's abilities like they should. Though i earlier forgot to take Alissa to Spirit Soaring for the second time so it could be the cause of the problem (chapter 6). I try this at my next install.

Randall (RoT) quest: After Razor is nearly dead i had to SetGlobal("RAZORBATTLE","GLOBAL",4) until Randall speaks with Razor. After that i had to SetGlobal("RAZORBATTLE","GLOBAL",6). Marcus didn't spawn at Spellhold had to CLUAConsole him then Randall and Marcus talks shortly and quest is over? Topic here.

D0 Quest Pack: Moneylender quests Moiya's husband Lorick hasn't ever spawn in Spellhold in my installs. I noticed it during Randall quest problem hunt.

TS: Something went wrong with Yoshimo (TS) at Spellhold. Everything seems to ok after first talks with Jon Irenicus at uptairs. Yoshimo says that he's not cursed anymore and Jon indicates that as well. After some more talks party is teleported to Cellar and CHARNAME into glasstube. 4 other party members are at nearby cell. Yoshimo is out of party and in the same room with Jon and CHARNAME. Talks with Jon and Yoshimo indicates that Yoshimo is now traitor and also cursed. After the normal talks party is teleported to Candlekeep Dream except Yoshimo. Later when i after Jon Irenicus battle Yoshimo comes and after short talks attacks. I had to kill him (no Yoshimo's Heart though) and then Kachiko (TS) leaves. This ain't probably a bug it might be some global mix up in MY install or is due to MY playstyle. Topic here.

Sahuagin City: During fight with Ettin you are teleported back to Sahuagin King before Ettin is dead. You can kill it later though.

Fading Promises: Aidan didn't spawn after i did get the Fist of Amaunator. Have to do some global setting. Also i did get two Fist of Amaunator. Also spawning problems later at Athkatla. Had to do some manual work to progress.

Ninde NPC: Some problems with repeating underdark lovetalk. Had to SetGlobal("LK#NINDELOVETALK_UNDERDARK","GLOBAL",3).

Underdark: When going to rescue Phaere you meet adventurer party. Damien doesn't spawn with others (Boz, N'ashtar, Pitch, Simbja and Chandrilla). Though he did spawn much later alone. At AR2100.BCS Boz have this "CreateCreature("gpfightl",[3346.2337],12)" and others similar but Damien have "CreateCreature("gpthiefl",[3789.2071],0)". Why 0 instead of 12. I don't know.

Illithid City: Only one Githyanki (out of 4 or 5) did teleport with Simyaz to Arena, later meeting after escape and later to Underdark meeting. Others remain at cell.

"No Valid Reply Links" at Demon Ritual in Ust Natha after Matron Mother Ardulace dies. Gavin NPC blamed at G3 (probably solved).

Game doesn't proceed to chapter 6 and no chapter 6 start screen and had to CLUAConsole chapter to 6.

"Picking the Marks" (CtB) quest: I did find Suspension Hourglass too early at Chapter 2 (quest not started yet). Later at Harper HQ i didn't find Harper's Harp (quest in progress at Chapter 6). Had to CLUAConsole it. Fixed by Hoppy. Topic here. Also problems at Graveyard look above.

Civil Disobediance (CtB) quest: Had to SetGlobal("CBPARTYESCAPEDUNDERDARK","GLOBAL",1). Topic here.

Umar Hills: D's Odd Quest Mod these "Spawn"s doesn't probably work right. They keeping doing "invisible spawning" during and after the quest is over. I don't know should they stop spawning or do they spawn for rest of game?

The Quest for the Eye of a God quest (RoT): At RA5000 i had to SetGlobal("SPEAKDIVINE","RA5000",6) to proceed next area. Divine Guardian didn't recognize getting the Tablets.

RoT: Game CTD when Bundor (Arlax) tries to upgrade items. XP tries to send bug report to Microsoft. Nothing on Baldur.err. Topic here.

Tales of Anegh curscene crash didn't appear after i copied the CRE-file to overwite folder. Thanks to Fouinto and Jastey for solving this. Topic here.

CtB: Nemg Horse Ranch (AR3597) can't open "invisible" container (x 2125 y 790). It has Hammer of Lokin. Topic here.

CtB: Quest "Assasination Attempt II" never start and this leads that quest "Death And Taxes" never start. Nobody answered my question about these quests. Maybe next install. Topic here.

Selence (SoS) has BG1 weapon profiencies not BG2. Topic here.

SoS: Problems with Imprisonment at 2nd Floor (AR42668) of The Splintered Stair at Soubar. If you joke with Laura Kross you party gets imprisoned and game CTD. This related to earlier Imprisonment CTD above. Topic here.

SoS: When you get the unremovable items back Ninde doesn't get her Anhk of Ascension. Selence gets two Selence's Knap Sacks. Topic here.

Soubar Main Quest (SoS): Prelate Wessalen keep spawning endlessly until you talk to him 2nd time. After that there's (n) Prelate Wessalen who have nothing say to you. Thanks for Turambar for help. SoS fixed and updated by Hoppy. Topic here.

SoS: (n) Sword of Chaos at container (x 450 y 1000) at AR4287. If you take Sword of Chaos (SW2H05) you cannot remove it from inventory. Topic here.

SoS: I cannot enter to Guard Barracks Prison Level 2 (AR4287) from Prison (AR4288) even though Soubar Major says that CHARNAME can go to Lyrar's Hold through the Caves. Well you go there later from Lyrar's Hold through the Caves. Topic here.

SoS: Charlotte didn't regain her Ranger status. Spy quest didn't increase Global. This is probably just hick-up in my unstall. Topic here.

TDD Mega Quest: I went into the house (DD1005) at Easthaven. I talked with Azim. Then everybody are teleported out. Cutscene starts and then it hangs. Everybody just stand there, nothing happens and i can't do anything but close the game.

TDD Mega Quest: Problem at fight with Errtu at cave fight (DD9400). When Errtu is nearly dead and "prepairing" to be teleported to Temple. CHARNAME gets hit and all items drop in to the ground and hitpoints drop to 1. Then all are teleported to Temple were Alustriel banishes Errtu to abyss. CHARNAME don't move or respond any other way still selectable though. I saved and look at saved file. I noticed that CHARNAME was petrified so i removed the effects, loaded and continued forward. I don't know if this is intended behavior or not.

TDD Mega Quest: Area loading CTD at areas ARPO27 and ARPO29. After some testing both CTD was caused by CRE-files. At area ARPO27 it was DDMANARC.CRE and at area ARPO29 DDGENERA.CRE. Both were fixed by copying CRE-file from backup folder of Infinity Animations. For me this looks like similar CTD like GINPACHI.CRE CTD above though Baldur.err is different so the cause is probably different. Solution is the same. Well i don't know was causes these CTDs and i can't blame Infinity Animations or any mod for these CTDs i don't have any knowledge for modding.

Baldur.err for the CTDs:

Spoiler

TDD: TDD main quest probably breaks Ninde NPC romance finale, restoring her soul. Ellesime never talk about Ninde's soul before TDD main quest starts. So no restoring her soul. Also i did't get the Seldarine Amulet from Ellesime.

CtB: Oak Pole (CBDRSWOD), Smelted Ore (CBRNGMTL) and Titanium Rod (CBNRTHM2) stops the Cromwell's item search dialogue. Cromwell says that unfortunately you don't have the other part and stops for seaching other items. Well you can always drop them before talking to Cromwell.

Cromwell dialogue: Something is wrong with item enchancement dialogue. First i commission Masamune +4 (Lol's Rezmod) and i get it. Next i comission The Righteous (Ajantis NPC) and get it but then he starts dialoque and i also get Masamune +4. Next i comission Ilvastarr Family Shield (Ajantis NPC) and get it but then he starts dialoque and i also get Masamune +4 again. Then i comission Deathbringer (Munchmod) and get it but then he starts dialogue and i get Masamune +4 again. Then he finds dragon scales and ankheg shells but i don't want them. Then i comission Crom Faeyr and get it but then he starts dialogue and i get Deathbringer again. After that every time i get item he starts dialogue and i get Deathbringer also. I ended having 4 Masamune +4 and 8 Deathbringer. Cromwell is probably most modded character in game.

Ruad: When you comission Wooden Stake (U#BLUN03) Ruad says that you need 3 Wooden Stake (MISC6W) but he takes 3 Chunk of Illithium Alloy (MISC6S).

Munchmod: When you comission Spear of the Phoenix (SGSPR1) at Trademeet. Blacksmith takes 7,500 Gold but not Spear Shaft (SGMISC3) or Dark Obsidian Spearhead (SGMISC2) and you don't get Spear of the Phoenix.

Well that's about every problem i remember. There might been little problems before SoA chapter 6 but i don't remember anymore.

Very special thanks go to Hoppy  for helping me in various problems in BIG mods.

Some notes on romances because i like them alot.

I have noticed that are many new NPCs relased recently sadly though they mostly male NPCs. I prefer female NPCs.

BG1: Sad that are only one romance Dynaheir. Even though i really like it alot and continue to do it at every game. Well there is Shar-Teel but it's unlikely that that play Evil CHARNAME. Maybe i try it in future. I don't know. There is Branwen but that romance dies.

BG2: It's sad that most these romances doesn't have ToB content. I really hope that Ninde NPC isn't dead now that the author is retired. Ninde is probably the best romance NPC. She so wonderfully "wicked". Sadly that romance is short and doesn't start before chapter 3. Fade NPC has the same problem when starting at chapter 3. Now with these Big Mods chapter 2 is very long at least in my game. I really hope that Fade NPCs ToB part is still progressing because she's also one of favoured romances. Amber NPCs ToB is hopely coming in future because i like her alot. These are at critical phase but only Ninde NPC is probably dead mod at the moment.

Kim NPC is also my favored but sadly it's romance doesn't start to "blossom". I don't know what's the status of this mod because it's french mod and i don't understand french so i can't follow it progress.

Kitanya NPC i like to play sometimes but it hasn't romance yet. Well it's not dead yet i hope.

Azure NPC and Sheena NPC mods are probably dead.

Kiara NPC i haven't never tried. I probably try it sometimes but my party doesn't usually have two vacant slot. Zaiya needs to be at party too.

Well then there is de'Arnise Romance Nalia. I don't know is she going to have the ToB content. Well i like Nalia sometimes and want to kill her sometimes. But like to play ToB part.

Fortunately one of my favoured Imoen Romance is showing signs of life after very long wait. I really looking forward it.

Now the good part, Tyris NPC is getting ToB part hopely soon. I like her alot.

I don't know what kind of ToB content Sime NPC have but i going to find out when play the ToB.

At least the moment two favoured mod Tashia and Saerileth have ToB content. Even though i don't like Saerileth mod's merciless romance killing but i like her alot.

Then there are Aerie, Jaheira and Viconia romances. Sadly that Aerie flirts doesn't work. I like to try her romance sometimes too.

Finally it's Delainy NPC which i really looking to try after it's released sometimes in the future.

Now i continue to ToB. After i finish it i make new BWP install and start from the beginning.

Update: Corrected wrong Fade NPC mod info.

Edit 2 - September 2012: Dragon Age III: Inquisition confirmed. Posts on this begin here.

Edit: BioWare's Al McNally has officially confirmed that Dragon Age III is currently under development.

I'm looking for exceptional environment artists to join me at #BioWare Edmonton, Canada to work on #DragonAge3 #gamejobs #jobs #3D #artists

The first rumors of Dragon Age III have surfaced, and apparently the game is already under development (not that big of a shock if true). But what's new is that it's rumored to feature a multiplayer mode.

Personally I'll buy into the rumor of it being under development, but I'm dubious about the multiplayer component.

I will start without much prefaces.
I finally managed to upgrade the BWS to fit the latest version of BWP (thanks to Dabus for help and advice, without which I could never do that). I had little time to test the new program, so not all the conflicts and dependencies can be configured correctly, but I hope for your help. ;)

Yoshimo will not talk to me!

When I met Yoshimo in Irenicus' dungeon, I took Yoshimo into my party.  After his experience got adjusted, I released him from my party and sent him to The Copper Coronet.  I picked up Kachico, exited the dungeon and bought some stuff in Waukeen's Promenade.  I went to The Copper Coronet and tried to talk with Yoshimo.  I get the "Yoshimo - has nothing to say to you." response.  Kachico gets the same response.  Search for a solution but cannot find one.  No other mod with Yoshimo is installed.

Any suggestions.  I will save this game, but in the meantime I will also replay it from the fight with Severok and try keeping him in the party.  But, I Will need to loose someone else from my party.

Thanks for any help,

Tom

Hi, I want to do a little thing that'd require adding a fake area directly under Saradush's icon on the ToB worldmap, but either I require more data in my code, or it's just not really working.

BEGIN ~sarabutt~
COPY_EXISTING ~ar4000.are~ ~override/L-SAR1.are~

APPEND ~MASTAREA.2da~ ~L-SAR1 value~

LAUNCH_ACTION_FUNCTION sc#addWmpAre
    STR_VAR
        areName = ~L-SAR1~
        strName = ~Saradush~
        strDesc = ~Saradush~
        worldmap = ~worldm25~

    INT_VAR
        mapIcon = 17
        xCoord = 272
        yCoord = 128
        tTime = 3
        inclSv = 1
        reachable = 0
        visited = 0
        visible = 0
        visibleAdjacent = 0

RET areNum = areNum END

END

PRINT "Destroyed Saradush patched, area number: %areNum%"

I thought the problem was in the lack of associative array, but it's not. Lava's worldmap.tph wouldn't work for ToB, would it?

Thanks for FADE TOB! :D

kreso's reccomended BWS mods
