Mazzy the Paladin compatability

I don't see Mazzy the Paladin listed in the Big World PDF.  Is there any compatibility issues? If not where should I install?  After Mazzy friendship?

Playthrough of BWP.  Just finished the underdark and I have Adalon's eggs on me (not in a container, but in my backpack).  The first time I talked to her she was fine, gave me a reward then teleported me right into the middle of a fight.  I said hmm.. lets load that last save just before I talked to Adalon and toss some buffs on myself first.  Well, now when I approach Adalon, she is red and angry.  What gives??  How to fix? 

 

 

Random Crashes, No Mods Intalled

So I've just started trying to get into playing Planescape, but the game keeps crashing for no clearly discernible reason. It crashed twice when I tried to overwrite an older save file (but worked fine when made a new save and overwrote that), and it also crashed several times when I attempted to enter a building. I have no mods installed whatsoever, and I'm playing the DVD version on my Windows 7 desktop. If further details are needed for you to help me solve the problem, I'd be happy to supply them, but I have no clue what the issue might be. If you can help, that'd be great, and it'd also be cool if you could explain exactly what the problem is if you have a solution, because I'm interested in software design and I'd like to learn what I can from the solving of this issue. Either way, thanks in advance if you can help.

I start this discussion here rather than in "misc released mods" because the idea for this NPC is related to continuity as provided by BGT (or Big Picture, if you like).
It is a mod that starts at Candlekeep and even continues after the final battle of ToB (provided you follow the mods storyline along with your own).
 
The mod is large and requires a number of other mods (BGT and the megamods etc) to be installed first. It also requires you to start freshly from Candlekeep, thus it is aimed at the really dedicated players of the trilogy who like to discover something new and revisit the whole game again at the same time.
 
The main storyline of the Bhaalspawn is augmented by Sandrah's epic search for her own answers and contains numerous additional quests and hundreds of new Areas added to the game.
 
Another issue is an attempt to tie some loose ends of various parts and mods together and even.solve some contradictions in the original game.
 
Crossmod contents is provided for a large number of released mods throughout the trilogy. A list of mods that have been considered is available.

SOA - Cannot enter necromancer's cave

I like the updated version of SOA.  But, I cannot enter the necromancer's cave.  I have the other four Talismans. Talking to Aranor or Cearwin gives nothing new.  All I can tell them is I am still looking.

 

Is the cave located on another area other than Tradeway South (AR3200)?  If yes, I will search again.

 

The only related problem is that many areas do not have names on my map and this is one of the areas without a name.

Hello, im using latest BWS. Tactics version is mine favourite, but now I cannot add The Darkest Day, it has conflict with some NPC mod(which I removed) but still have this conflict.

how to check Global("Gibberdead","BG4600",12) with CLU

I am currently playing a game with EET and 10+ mods (officials ones, patched ones...).

 

Laurel is supposed to tell me something particular IF Global("Gibberdead","BG4600",12) (after having killed 12 mobs)

 

CLUAConsole:GetGlobal("Gibberdead","BG4600") tell me "Gibberdead BG4600 doesn't exist" but... is it the proper way to test a LOCAL var ?

I have already used it for GLOBAL ones but never with local ones... before tracking this bug further I just like to know if this is the proper way to check this...

I also tried with NI but I don't know how to find LOCAL var in NI :(

 

 

Notes, Oddities and Possible Bugs in My BWP Game (Spoilers)

Hi, this is MY experiences in wonderful world of :Bow: Leonardo Watson's :Bow: BWP.

 

This is ongoing topic from first BWP (well... at least first BWP that i have commented here) onwards.

 

I don't want to mess up my first post (it has historic value to me) so i decided to make "header" to were i update link to my current BWP's starting post. That post contains my current weidu.log and some additional information like bug fixed before starting and so on.

Below this starts my first BWP install which is obsolete now.

Now that i have reach at end of SoA i though that i should share my experiences about my first real BWP install. There may have been other little problems but i don't remember those (I started writing this after i started chapter 6).

Note! This is BWP 9.1.2 and was made at end of May 2010. So this isn't most recent BWP install and some of the stuff in here are probably fixed already. I have no intention to re-install BWP every time when a new version is uploaded. It doesn't leave enough time for me to finish the game from Candlekeep to ToB. I always play the install to the end (only some very big game breaking bug that prevent playing is exception and i haven't encountered those so far).

These are possible bugs and at least oddities that i have encounter. Some of these have been probably reported earlier by someone else at somewhere? I cannot say that these are comfirmed bugs because i don't have any knowledge of modding. Some of these are probably random hick-ups in my local install or come from my unusual play style "Super NPC Switching".

Note! I use some mods that aren't in BWP. Mostly they are items mods. First is A Hero for All The Wrong Reasons it's Shed's entry to Iron Modder 6. I like the little mod and i had for years in my install. Then there is Moongaze's Crusader Pack Mod, Icendoan's Forum-Only Items, TrashMan's Holy Avenger Kit and Jamella's Diablo 2 Item Store.

BG1:

Angheg Farms AR8300: Problems with Gerde quest. Had to do some Global setting.

Secret of the Bone Hill: "Hand of Glory" quest problem. Had to SetGlobal("BHHANDSEARCH","GLOBAL",2). Also problems with Sir BillyBob because he's invisible (Staff of the Magi). Had do some CRE-files editing.

BG1 NPC: Problem with Dynaheir quest. Had to SetGlobal("X#DQDRIZZTSPAWN","GLOBAL",1).

Only little problems with transition to SoA.

BG2:

Imprison spell: If party member gets imprisoned it erases tooltip scroll (no name or hitpoints) have to repair with Shadowkeeper. If CHARNAME is imprisoned then CTD (i have this bug for many years). Thats why i always use Geirthan Plate or similar protection when there's a chance to get imprisoned.

Rose NPC: If i kick her at BG2 she goes to Burning Wizard Inn at Beregost. Hard to get her back if i want to. Well it's beta Mod so i'm not going to take her to SoA unless mod gets some progress by modder.

B!Tweaks: Traveler's Stone doesn't work.

20h travel bug at Waukeen's Promenade (solved). Thanks to Wisp for fix and World Map Mod update. Topic here.

Solestia De'Luna NPC: Her cousins keep spawning endlessly at Copper Coronet. Also her meeting with cousins doesn't work due Global setting to prevent endless spawning. Well it's beta Mod and probably gone from my next install unless mod gets some progress by the modder. Fixed locally. Thanks to Turambar.

The Undying: 3 Ghost doesn't spawn at Graveyard at night.

Graveyard: Crypt (AR0807) Kiara-Zaiya NPC script-file overwrites the previous script-file erasing the items from Exnem Vault and CtB (Picking the Marks quest). Fixed locally. Thanks to Hoppy.

Exnem Vault: BCS script isn't set at Bridge (AR0503). Something is blocking script at Bridge (AR0505), Government (AR1007), de'Arnise Hold (AR1303) and Umar Hills (AR1103). Items doesn't appear at containers. I don't know cause for these problems but probably not Exnem mod bugs.

G3 Anniversary Mod: Poor Dewny has been unconsious over year and laying at kitchen floor at Five Flagons Inn at Bridge. Somebody should wake her up.

BP: I can't open the container at Horred's Lair (AR8050, x 1900 y 755) in City Gates. It contains Wizard's Buckler +2.

Lol's Rezmod: Mae'Var didn't have Mune +2 as a loot also Kangaxx didn't have Masa +2 or journal. Had to CLUAConsole. Probably BP and DO Quest Pack are overwriting Mae'Var CRE-file and probably BP is overwriting Kangaxx CRE-file, other items (from other Mod/s) are gone too.

Stuff Of The Magi: Kangaxx didn't have Boots of the Magi. Had to CLUAConsole. Probably BP is overwriting Kangaxx CRE-file other items (from other Mod/s) are gone too.

TDD: Montaron and Xzar quest required some Global settings.

No Branwen (BGT) and Yeslick (TDD) at Temple. Yeslick (TDD) problem is probably related to also installed Yeslick (BGT). Also problems with Shar-Teels (TDD) quest are also probably releated to this double install with Shar-Teel (BGT). I was wondering does these BGT add-on NPCs require that they are at party when transition to BG2 to appear at BG2. I don't know ?

de'Arnise Hold: Problems with TorGal spawning.

Ashes Of Embers: Bola of Web isn't at Adherent possesion at Druid Grove as readme states. Mod puts the Bola of Web in weapon slot and helmet slot then Cre-Fixer removes the item.

Ginpachi (Angelo NPC) CRE-file crash (i don't know the situation). Not Angelo NPC mod bug and i don't know what causes the CTD. Topic here.

Area map isn't updated right at Docks after i get the thief stronghold. It says at area map "Mae'var Guildhall" and below it "CHARNAME'S Guildhall". It's extremely annoying. He He. tongue.gif

Small Teeth Pass: No dragons at chapter 2 or 6.

Tactics: North Forest meshed up by Tactics mod (overwrites actors in area). Shard Of Ice mod quest is broken. Well CLUAConsole helps to solve it.

Hessa NPC: Trade Way Merchant Camp Area (ARSU10) not in Worldmap had to CLUA:Console there.

Drizzt Do'Urden (RoT) and Charlotte (SoS) doesn't get priest spells (only empty spell slots) level 4 and up. It's just odd nothing more.

Escaped Prisoner quest (RoT): Tresham didn't spawn at Slums had to SetGlobal("THEFINMEWT","GLOBAL",1). Later i did find him also at Copper Coronet so i probably mess up the quest. I don't know which place he's supposed to be? I try diffently next time.

Stronghold quests: Problems with Firkraag (Revised Battles) spawning at Windspear Hills (AR1200) after the first battle at lair.

Fade NPC: Firkraak's Tooth missing from loot of Firkraag. Fade mod doesn't recognize that Revised Battles mod changes the Firkraag CRE-file to B#FIR02. (Had this in my previous install as well).

Stronghold quests: Last of the Helm's event (you prevent Talos attack against Lathander and then prevent counterattack) Talosians and Mistress Ada are hostile if you go to Temple of Talos after solving the quest. They probably shouldn't i don't know.

Planar Sphere Mod: After finishing "Finding Stolen Artifact" quest you come to AR0411 Belle talks to you. She says that she going to Map Room. But she never spawns at AR0411. Had to CLUAConsole her.

Some problems with compbility of Alternatives and Rogue Rebalancing mods. Gaelan Bayle didn't want talk about Arledrian in "A Missing Fence?" quest. Had to do some Global settings.

Wrong textscreens when going to TS Kara-Tur (same as RoT Icewind Dale Bremen) and going to Brynnlaw (same as ?). It's just odd and don't affect the game any other way.

Alissa (RoT) loses her experience and levels when she rejoins at Spirit Soaring (wrong cre-file?). Also Priest of Oghma and Alissa don't talk about Alissa's abilities like they should. Though i earlier forgot to take Alissa to Spirit Soaring for the second time so it could be the cause of the problem (chapter 6). I try this at my next install.

Randall (RoT) quest: After Razor is nearly dead i had to SetGlobal("RAZORBATTLE","GLOBAL",4) until Randall speaks with Razor. After that i had to SetGlobal("RAZORBATTLE","GLOBAL",6). Marcus didn't spawn at Spellhold had to CLUAConsole him then Randall and Marcus talks shortly and quest is over? Topic here.

D0 Quest Pack: Moneylender quests Moiya's husband Lorick hasn't ever spawn in Spellhold in my installs. I noticed it during Randall quest problem hunt.

TS: Something went wrong with Yoshimo (TS) at Spellhold. Everything seems to ok after first talks with Jon Irenicus at uptairs. Yoshimo says that he's not cursed anymore and Jon indicates that as well. After some more talks party is teleported to Cellar and CHARNAME into glasstube. 4 other party members are at nearby cell. Yoshimo is out of party and in the same room with Jon and CHARNAME. Talks with Jon and Yoshimo indicates that Yoshimo is now traitor and also cursed. After the normal talks party is teleported to Candlekeep Dream except Yoshimo. Later when i after Jon Irenicus battle Yoshimo comes and after short talks attacks. I had to kill him (no Yoshimo's Heart though) and then Kachiko (TS) leaves. This ain't probably a bug it might be some global mix up in MY install or is due to MY playstyle. Topic here.

Sahuagin City: During fight with Ettin you are teleported back to Sahuagin King before Ettin is dead. You can kill it later though.

Fading Promises: Aidan didn't spawn after i did get the Fist of Amaunator. Have to do some global setting. Also i did get two Fist of Amaunator. Also spawning problems later at Athkatla. Had to do some manual work to progress.

Ninde NPC: Some problems with repeating underdark lovetalk. Had to SetGlobal("LK#NINDELOVETALK_UNDERDARK","GLOBAL",3).

Underdark: When going to rescue Phaere you meet adventurer party. Damien doesn't spawn with others (Boz, N'ashtar, Pitch, Simbja and Chandrilla). Though he did spawn much later alone. At AR2100.BCS Boz have this "CreateCreature("gpfightl",[3346.2337],12)" and others similar but Damien have "CreateCreature("gpthiefl",[3789.2071],0)". Why 0 instead of 12. I don't know.

Illithid City: Only one Githyanki (out of 4 or 5) did teleport with Simyaz to Arena, later meeting after escape and later to Underdark meeting. Others remain at cell.

"No Valid Reply Links" at Demon Ritual in Ust Natha after Matron Mother Ardulace dies. Gavin NPC blamed at G3 (probably solved).

Game doesn't proceed to chapter 6 and no chapter 6 start screen and had to CLUAConsole chapter to 6.

"Picking the Marks" (CtB) quest: I did find Suspension Hourglass too early at Chapter 2 (quest not started yet). Later at Harper HQ i didn't find Harper's Harp (quest in progress at Chapter 6). Had to CLUAConsole it. Fixed by Hoppy. Topic here. Also problems at Graveyard look above.

Civil Disobediance (CtB) quest: Had to SetGlobal("CBPARTYESCAPEDUNDERDARK","GLOBAL",1). Topic here.

Umar Hills: D's Odd Quest Mod these "Spawn"s doesn't probably work right. They keeping doing "invisible spawning" during and after the quest is over. I don't know should they stop spawning or do they spawn for rest of game?

The Quest for the Eye of a God quest (RoT): At RA5000 i had to SetGlobal("SPEAKDIVINE","RA5000",6) to proceed next area. Divine Guardian didn't recognize getting the Tablets.

RoT: Game CTD when Bundor (Arlax) tries to upgrade items. XP tries to send bug report to Microsoft. Nothing on Baldur.err. Topic here.

Tales of Anegh curscene crash didn't appear after i copied the CRE-file to overwite folder. Thanks to Fouinto and Jastey for solving this. Topic here.

CtB: Nemg Horse Ranch (AR3597) can't open "invisible" container (x 2125 y 790). It has Hammer of Lokin. Topic here.

CtB: Quest "Assasination Attempt II" never start and this leads that quest "Death And Taxes" never start. Nobody answered my question about these quests. Maybe next install. Topic here.

Selence (SoS) has BG1 weapon profiencies not BG2. Topic here.

SoS: Problems with Imprisonment at 2nd Floor (AR42668) of The Splintered Stair at Soubar. If you joke with Laura Kross you party gets imprisoned and game CTD. This related to earlier Imprisonment CTD above. Topic here.

SoS: When you get the unremovable items back Ninde doesn't get her Anhk of Ascension. Selence gets two Selence's Knap Sacks. Topic here.

Soubar Main Quest (SoS): Prelate Wessalen keep spawning endlessly until you talk to him 2nd time. After that there's (n) Prelate Wessalen who have nothing say to you. Thanks for Turambar for help. SoS fixed and updated by Hoppy. Topic here.

SoS: (n) Sword of Chaos at container (x 450 y 1000) at AR4287. If you take Sword of Chaos (SW2H05) you cannot remove it from inventory. Topic here.

SoS: I cannot enter to Guard Barracks Prison Level 2 (AR4287) from Prison (AR4288) even though Soubar Major says that CHARNAME can go to Lyrar's Hold through the Caves. Well you go there later from Lyrar's Hold through the Caves. Topic here.

SoS: Charlotte didn't regain her Ranger status. Spy quest didn't increase Global. This is probably just hick-up in my unstall. Topic here.

TDD Mega Quest: I went into the house (DD1005) at Easthaven. I talked with Azim. Then everybody are teleported out. Cutscene starts and then it hangs. Everybody just stand there, nothing happens and i can't do anything but close the game.

TDD Mega Quest: Problem at fight with Errtu at cave fight (DD9400). When Errtu is nearly dead and "prepairing" to be teleported to Temple. CHARNAME gets hit and all items drop in to the ground and hitpoints drop to 1. Then all are teleported to Temple were Alustriel banishes Errtu to abyss. CHARNAME don't move or respond any other way still selectable though. I saved and look at saved file. I noticed that CHARNAME was petrified so i removed the effects, loaded and continued forward. I don't know if this is intended behavior or not.

TDD Mega Quest: Area loading CTD at areas ARPO27 and ARPO29. After some testing both CTD was caused by CRE-files. At area ARPO27 it was DDMANARC.CRE and at area ARPO29 DDGENERA.CRE. Both were fixed by copying CRE-file from backup folder of Infinity Animations. For me this looks like similar CTD like GINPACHI.CRE CTD above though Baldur.err is different so the cause is probably different. Solution is the same. Well i don't know was causes these CTDs and i can't blame Infinity Animations or any mod for these CTDs i don't have any knowledge for modding.

TDD: TDD main quest probably breaks Ninde NPC romance finale, restoring her soul. Ellesime never talk about Ninde's soul before TDD main quest starts. So no restoring her soul. Also i did't get the Seldarine Amulet from Ellesime.

CtB: Oak Pole (CBDRSWOD), Smelted Ore (CBRNGMTL) and Titanium Rod (CBNRTHM2) stops the Cromwell's item search dialogue. Cromwell says that unfortunately you don't have the other part and stops for seaching other items. Well you can always drop them before talking to Cromwell.

Cromwell dialogue: Something is wrong with item enchancement dialogue. First i commission Masamune +4 (Lol's Rezmod) and i get it. Next i comission The Righteous (Ajantis NPC) and get it but then he starts dialoque and i also get Masamune +4. Next i comission Ilvastarr Family Shield (Ajantis NPC) and get it but then he starts dialoque and i also get Masamune +4 again. Then i comission Deathbringer (Munchmod) and get it but then he starts dialogue and i get Masamune +4 again. Then he finds dragon scales and ankheg shells but i don't want them. Then i comission Crom Faeyr and get it but then he starts dialogue and i get Deathbringer again. After that every time i get item he starts dialogue and i get Deathbringer also. I ended having 4 Masamune +4 and 8 Deathbringer. Cromwell is probably most modded character in game.

Ruad: When you comission Wooden Stake (U#BLUN03) Ruad says that you need 3 Wooden Stake (MISC6W) but he takes 3 Chunk of Illithium Alloy (MISC6S).

Munchmod: When you comission Spear of the Phoenix (SGSPR1) at Trademeet. Blacksmith takes 7,500 Gold but not Spear Shaft (SGMISC3) or Dark Obsidian Spearhead (SGMISC2) and you don't get Spear of the Phoenix.

Well that's about every problem i remember. There might been little problems before SoA chapter 6 but i don't remember anymore.

Some notes on romances because i like them alot.

I have noticed that are many new NPCs relased recently sadly though they mostly male NPCs. I prefer female NPCs.

BG1: Sad that are only one romance Dynaheir. Even though i really like it alot and continue to do it at every game. Well there is Shar-Teel but it's unlikely that that play Evil CHARNAME. Maybe i try it in future. I don't know. There is Branwen but that romance dies.

BG2: It's sad that most these romances doesn't have ToB content. I really hope that Ninde NPC isn't dead now that the author is retired. Ninde is probably the best romance NPC. She so wonderfully "wicked". Sadly that romance is short and doesn't start before chapter 3. Fade NPC has the same problem when starting at chapter 3. Now with these Big Mods chapter 2 is very long at least in my game. I really hope that Fade NPCs ToB part is still progressing because she's also one of favoured romances. Amber NPCs ToB is hopely coming in future because i like her alot. These are at critical phase but only Ninde NPC is probably dead mod at the moment.

Kim NPC is also my favored but sadly it's romance doesn't start to "blossom". I don't know what's the status of this mod because it's french mod and i don't understand french so i can't follow it progress.

Kitanya NPC i like to play sometimes but it hasn't romance yet. Well it's not dead yet i hope.

Azure NPC and Sheena NPC mods are probably dead.

Kiara NPC i haven't never tried. I probably try it sometimes but my party doesn't usually have two vacant slot. Zaiya needs to be at party too.

Well then there is de'Arnise Romance Nalia. I don't know is she going to have the ToB content. Well i like Nalia sometimes and want to kill her sometimes. But like to play ToB part.

Fortunately one of my favoured Imoen Romance is showing signs of life after very long wait. I really looking forward it.

Now the good part, Tyris NPC is getting ToB part hopely soon. I like her alot.

I don't know what kind of ToB content Sime NPC have but i going to find out when play the ToB.

At least the moment two favoured mod Tashia and Saerileth have ToB content. Even though i don't like Saerileth mod's merciless romance killing but i like her alot.

Then there are Aerie, Jaheira and Viconia romances. Sadly that Aerie flirts doesn't work. I like to try her romance sometimes too.

Finally it's Delainy NPC which i really looking to try after it's released sometimes in the future.

Now i continue to ToB. After i finish it i make new BWP install and start from the beginning.

Centering frames in a BAM animation correctly?

Hello :)

I was working on an edit of a fantastic animation of Mr Bubble who was making animations for RPGMaker.
I successfully made an animation for my item in BG2, but the frames are cropped and resized when I've done so. Since the frames are cropped - the animation doesn't show up properly when the cycle is played.

Now I need to get the animation looking smoothly, and not each frame here and there.
Is there any good animators here, or anyone who can tell me how to solve this problem? :)

I did click Center button on DLTCEP's BAM editor... but it didn't help much.

I will start without much prefaces.
I finally managed to upgrade the BWS to fit the latest version of BWP (thanks to Dabus for help and advice, without which I could never do that). I had little time to test the new program, so not all the conflicts and dependencies can be configured correctly, but I hope for your help. ;)

Problems with my BW installation

1.  Ascalons Breagar v7.00b failed:  Error:  Failure("resource [ACVIRGI.DLG] not found for 'APPEND'")

 

2.  1ppv4 Spell Tweaks failed: 

      a.  Error:  illegal 4-byte write ( ) offset 1138 of 922-byte file SPWI414.SPL

      b.  Error:  [SPWI414.SPL] -> [override] Patching Failed (COPY) (Failure("SPWI414.SPL:  write out of bounds"))

      c.  Since this spell is a standard spell, I don't know if some other mod changed it.  Checking with DLTCEP didn't show any problems with this spell.

 

3.  The most critical failure was with item CDPP29.itm.  This caused a complete failure of Stratagems since it cause the initial component to fail so nothing else would load.  It also cause trap revisions to fail and the item checker to all fail.  Checking this item with DLTCEP shows this to be a completely invalid item.  If I knew which mod loaded this item I would delete the item from the mod/or the complete mod.

    a.  Error:  illegal 2-byte read from offset 61562 of 506-byte file

    b.  Error:  [CDPP29.ITM] -> [override/CDPP29.ITM] Patching failed (COPY) (Failure("Read out of bounds'))

 

I apologize in advance for being unable to upload any files.  I do not have the capability with a guest logon.  I will probably need to create a new userID since I have not received any response to unlock/recover password for my original account.

Also a new component has been included as a compatibility workaround with Item Revisions. It replaces the forged items by Taerom and Melicamp with ones that are actual upgrades if IR is installed.

Tweaks Anthology--currently in beta--should replace BG2 Tweaks when it matures. In terms of BWS, all of the components use the same order, number, and have the same conflicts as the BG2 Tweaks ones, with one exception--Faster Cutscenes should now work for BGT games. There are a number of new components and options above and beyond BG2 Tweaks v16, though.

I've always wanted to do a Let's Play of the greatest mod compilation of Baldur's Gate II. Good mods, bad mods, all mods. A celebration of the work that has been going into this game and this community for about 10 years now. And I started doing it on the Something Awful forums. It's actually still in progress there, but I realize that not everybody can access it. So I wanted to re-post it here and let more people read it. Let's get started!

Let's Play Rules
I want to set down some ground rules to make the game more interesting.

1. Semi-hardcore mode: What happens, happens. I will only reload if I die. I don't expect to be able to do this Ironman style, although that's my goal. But if Minsc gets disintegrated, then he's gone. But this mod brings in so many additional NPCs that replacing a dead one is no trouble. In fact, with enough treasure we can bribe random dudes on the street (or even animals, golems, beholders, dragons...) to join our party. As long as one NPC lives in the Sword Coast we will never be without cannon fodder friends. I also won't cheat in any way.

2. Blissful Ignorance Roleplaying: I need to make this a game I want to play, so I've picked my own character. He is a chaotic neutral wild mage. He's wild mage because I want to play a wild mage, and he's chaotic neutral because you all are the voices in his crazy wild mage head that he listens to in order to make decisions. I will poll the thread for every major plot decision, and go with whatever vote is the majority. That's about as chaotic neutral as things can possibly get. Make yourselves heard! Also, there are so, so many mods in this game that its practically brand-new. I worry that if I spend hours on a German-language message board just to figure out the optimal path to take in yet another maze of conversation options I'll never finish the game. So if you want to help me out in research and meta-gaming I'd also appreciate it.

3. Class-changing characters: There are approximately 100 classes total now in this game, and while some of the characters that can join our party have been changed to new classes, some still haven't. Also, sometimes you just think a character would be great as another class. So sometimes I will change a character's class when I first meet them, or I will select some possibilities and let the thread vote on it. The three characters I've got in mind right now for modifications are Montaron becoming a Thug, Xan becoming a Bladesinger, and Coran becoming a Swashbuckler. You can brush up on the available classes by reading this 200 page PDF. Also, I will give full class descriptions during each vote.

4. Party Membership is a Democracy: The mechanics of this modded game allow us to tell almost all the characters we meet to go wait for us in a major inn, such as the Jovial Juggler in Beregost, or the Copper Coronet in Amn. Periodically, such as after 2 or 3 major quests are completed, we will have a party composition vote in the thread. Each thread poster has 5 votes, which they can use to either vote FOR or AGAINST any character to be a party member. You can use all 5 votes for one character, or spread them out. You can vote both positively and negatively. If you vote too many times, only the first 5 votes are counted. If there is a tie, the character with the least amount of negative votes wins. If there's a tie in both positive and negative votes, I'll flip a coin. After voting is closed, the top 5 characters will join the party until they die.

5. Resurrection Rest and Relaxation: All party members get resurrections on the party dime if they die, and we can afford it. However, after being resurrected, party members are required to have some rest and relaxation at the party inn. They will be kicked out and replaced with the next-most-popular character. This will give them time to get over their horrifying ordeal of death and let the other party members work through their guilt at letting them die. Best solution all around. In this way we will be able to switch out characters more often and showcase them all. (Don't worry about spreading the total xp too thin. There's enough xp in this game to open an xp shop.)

6. Game mechanics and commentary: I will transcribe everything that happens in-game into thread updates (I use OCR, don't worry about my fingers) in italics. I will describe what happens in tactical encounters as a kind of play-by-play commentary, also in italics. Finally, I will also include my own roleplaying stream-of-consciousness thoughts in italics as well, to provide motivations for what I do in-game. But when it's time to comment on the game itself or talk extensively about mechanics or bitch about the plot, I'll do that in normal text, and I'll preface it by saying "Gameplay note."




FAQ

1. Why didn't you use <insert class="" here=""> or let us help you choose? I have a very specific Plan ™ for my character's progression as a wild mage and a Child of Bhaal. The chaotic nature of magic is extremely compelling to me from a storytelling perspective, and I plan to have my character be extremely superstitious of the random number generator. He will believe that the Magical Weave speaks to him through wild surges, and tailor his gameplay and spellcasting practices based on signs he appears to get from the Weave in the form of wild surges. If he does some type of magical tactic and he gets a bad wild surge, he will interpret it as the Weave not wanting him to do those types of things anymore. And if he gets a good wild surge, he will interpret that as approval of his actions. Also, later on there are other plot-related devices that I will inflict upon him. Finally, the mods in the BiG Picture make playing a wild mage more compelling than any other class, with special items, unique spells, and even a secret class that we could potentially convert to. So there's that. Also, when Irenicus captures me and tortures me for months in order to unlock my true potential, he's going to be successful. Don't worry, I'm not going to give myself a ton of xp. I'll still be entirely within the rules. But it's going to be good, trust me.

Also, there is a really frightening gameplay mechanics reason for playing a mage. I tested out quite a few different characters by starting them up in the Throne of Bhaal section of the game and playing around with them at the quite high levels you begin with. There's a demon that attacks you right away there, a difficult fight. And horrifyingly enough, he easily gibbed every single character that I rolled up. Druids, paladins, bards, fighters - all gibbed in about 10 seconds. Now the characters were solo, and only had the sub-par magical equipment that is automatically given to a new ToB character, but still. It was one demon! The only character to survive his attack was a bladesinger. The bladesinger managed to cast Summon Fallen Planetar and then Energy Blades. The Energy Blades were the only weapons that ever hurt the demon, contrary to everything in the new character starter kit. And the Fallen Planetar was the only summoned creature that could stand up to the demon (the Planetar managed to vorpal his ass in about 3 rounds). So I decided that in order to actually survive this game, I would have to be someone who could summon Planetars. That meant either be a mage or a cleric. And since I want to become a god, that ruled out clerics.

2. How do you feel about spoilers for the original game's plot? The original games are old, and there's already Let's Plays all the way until Throne of Bhaal. I'm trying to focus on and emphasize the number and scope of the mods, and how they add to, differ from, and perhaps subtract from the original game. So I'm totally fine with people referencing everything in the original game without spoilers. Besides, there are so many changes that what people think are spoilers may not be. One of the best things I am looking forward to is people losing their shit and saying, "But it was supposed to be <original way="">! It is now <modded way="">?! Holky fuck!"

3. How do I install this myself? Theoretically you should be able to simply download the Big World Project installer and the Big World Project pdf and follow the pdf exactly to install the Big World Project. However, there are some common misunderstandings and hiccups that always seem to come up.

First most common problem is that you should not use the beta installer, which despite being a more recent file with a higher version number in the same file collection, does not work. It is called BiG World Setup v9.10, and it doesn't work. Don't use it.

Another common problem is that you must make sure to have a full installation of Baldur's Gate I on your hard drive, preferably installed to a very simple directory to type such as C:/baldur. You should start BG1 and save a game after you have installed it. Later on, during the batch file installation of the Big World Project, the install script will seem to stop and a cursor will appear. If you don't catch the note, this is the prompt for you to enter in your BG1 installation path, which in this example would be C:/baldur. Hence the easy-to-type directory advice.

Still another common problem is you MUST have a full installation of Baldur's Gate II and Throne of Bhaal with patch 26498 installed to ../BGII - SoA. For some reason the installer requires that exact directory name. It can be anywhere, but it needs to be named that. Also you should start a game and save a game in both the Shadows of Amn and Throne of Bhaal portions of the game, just as you did with BG1, before beginning installation.

Another common misunderstanding is what the Big World Setup program actually does. It downloads, extracts, and updates all of the mods you tell it to, and arranges a custom batch file to install them all. But then you have to click on the batch file yourself and run it. You should expect the process to take anywhere between 6 to 24 hours depending on a lot of variables. You can run the Big World Setup program multiple times to make sure that everything is exactly the way you want it to be, and you probably should. Some files may be hosted on sites that are slow, or currently down, and a second, third, or fourth try may be what it takes to get a complete set of install files. Also, running the program several times will familiarize you with the possible options, so you can make better-informed choices. Nothing is set in stone until you end the Big World Setup program and start the batch file, so take your time.

Sometimes the Big World Setup program will not be able to find some mods automatically. There may be timeouts or naming inconsistencies. During the install the Big World Setup will inform you of those and allow you the opportunity to download the mods manually, fix the typos yourself, or just say fuck it and move on without those mods. Up to you. If you do choose to download the mods manually, then you can use this site to track them down.

And finally, according to the GOG Baldur's Gate forum if you buy BG1 or BG2 there they both come in the condition you need to start the install, no further patching or whatnot necessary.

4. How do I change NPC classes or kits, like changing Khalid to a Duskblade or Rose to a White Dragon Disciple? To change NPC character kits, you have to follow a bit of a complicated procedure using Shadow Keeper, the BG2 save game editor. Shadow Keeper can change the kits of any NPC for you, but it doesn't have all the data it needs to name them. So you have to first discover the value by making a character with that kit, then copy the value from one save to another. I'll give an example of changing Minsc to a Feralan, but the procedure works with all kits.

1. Download, extract, and run Shadow Keeper. It can run in the background of BG2 no problem.
2. Fire up BG2, and save your current game with the NPC whose class you want to change in the party. Save it with an easy name to remember, like "Change Minsc to Feralan."
3. Exit your current game and start a new one.
4. Create a new character for yourself that uses the Feralan kit.
5. Save the game with a name you can easily remember, like "Generic Feralan".
6. If you have a full-screen BG2 game going, just press Alt-f4 to close BG2 and get the little popup window that says "Are you sure you want to quit? Boo will miss you..." Ignore that window and switch to Shadow Keeper.
7. In Shadow Keeper, open up both save games "Generic Feralan" and "Change Minsc to Feralan."
8. In the save "Change Minsc to Feralan," use the scroll bar under your character portrait to change the selected character to Minsc.
9. Write down the amount of XP that Minsc currently has, like 9882.
10. On the Abilities tab (default tab you should be looking at already) change Minsc's Base HP and Current HP to 1. Change THAC0 to 20. Change Experience to 0. Change Levels to 0/0/0.
11. On the Characteristic tab (next one after Abilities) change Class if necessary.
12. Then select the "Generic Feralan" save. Look at that character's Characteristic tab. Click on the Set Value button for the Kit. A small window will pop up with two boxes in it, Value and Known. Copy the Value ... value, which will be something like "0x40A70000". This is the Feralan kit value.
13. Then press cancel, select your game save that you called "Change Minsc to Feralan" and again click on the Set Value button. Paste the value that you copied earlier, and press OK. You should have changed the Value from "0x00000000" to "0x40A70000". That will give the kit to Minsc.
14. Go to the Memorization tab and erase all spells.
15. Go to the Innate tab and erase all Innate abilities.
16. Go to the Wizard tab and erase all spells.
17. Go to the Priest tab and erase all spells.
18. Go to the Proficiencies tab and erase all proficiencies.
19. Go to the Thieves tab and set all thief skills to 0.
20. Save the game in Shadow Keeper. It will be called "Change Minsc to Feralan (Edited 0001)"
21. Alt-tab back to the confirmation dialog for BG2 and select No to get back to BG2.
22. Load the game "Change Minsc to Feralan (Edited 0001)"
23. Minsc should level up from 0 to 1 on game load. Click his Record, level him up, and press ok. This will give him all the stats and skills and hit points and what-have-you for his new kit.
24. Then give Minsc back the xp he used to have, which in this example is 9882. You can do that by pressing CTRL-Space and using the cheat code CLUAConsole:SetCurrentXP("9882")
25. Level Minsc up to the level that his current xp allows and continue the game as normal.

Cannot find Wostok

I found a letter addressed to Mulahey in the Nashkell mines.  The letter that told Mulahey to meet Tarasch Blackhelmet (really spelled Tarash) at the pillar in Beregost.  I met Tarash and killed him.  Tarash had a letter that Bashrik Sparklehammer was coming and they would kill him at the crossroads in Lion.s Way.  I went to Lion;s Way but Bashrik was already dead.  Found his diary that mentions a cult called 'The Serpents of Abbathor'.  The diary also tells that Bashrik will meet his partner Wostok at the temple of Helm in Baldur's Gate.  The diary also mentions Draglon, an enemy of Bashrik can be found in the Undercellars in Baldur's Gate.

 

I went to the temple of Helm and was told Wostok was not there but he like to go to taverns.  I went to the Undercellars and was told by Draglon to kill Wostok.

 

I searched every tavern I cold find.  I cannot find Wostok.  Can anyone tell me where Wostok is? Also which mod is this?

Gromnir dead, no Mellisan

Per the title, playing through ToB solo.  I have killed Gromnir (twice) and Mellisan does not show up after the fight.  First time I killed him, I did step out of the room to heal myself.  Second time I fought him, I stayed in the room the entire fight.  Waited a good while and Mellisan never showed up.  Looked for her a bit around town, no go... 

 

Kinda stuck..

Centering frames in a BAM animation correctly?

Hello :)

I was working on an edit of a fantastic animation of Mr Bubble who was making animations for RPGMaker.
I successfully made an animation for my item in BG2, but the frames are cropped and resized when I've done so. Since the frames are cropped - the animation doesn't show up properly when the cycle is played.

Now I need to get the animation looking smoothly, and not each frame here and there.
Is there any good animators here, or anyone who can tell me how to solve this problem? :)

I did click Center button on DLTCEP's BAM editor... but it didn't help much.

Temple of the Black Hand area (AR60PB) is not on my map.

I have talked with Meander and he has sent me to destroy the Black Hand.  The area is not on my map.  I know I can CLUAConsole:MoveToArea("AR60PB") to get there.  I just wonder if there is a better way to get to that area.  Maybe there is a Global that can be set?

 

The reason is that someone, much more knowledgeable then me, posted that using CLUAConsole:MoveToArea can mess up the game.  So if possible, I would like to avoid doing that.

I tracked down the issue, the modification of finsol01 state 28 is the problem.

As you can see the transitions have been removed so there is only 2 instead of 4.
 
So any mod that tries to modify the original transitions will cause an error.

I don't know where exactly (other than the Mega Mod Kit Pack mod) this kit comes from, but I would like to change the free action it gets on the 9th level. As per spell revisions, free action no longer blocks haste, improved haste and similar effects, but it does so for the innate ability of the Arcane Avenger, which is really bothersome. With my limited abilities I began tinkering with Near Infinity and I'm pretty sure to have identified AP_B#ARC03 as the "spell" that is applied, however I was unable to find that anywhere and I have no idea how to proceed from there.

Ideally I would use it to edit the my save, or if it works retroactively, the AP_B#ARC03 to apply the revised free action spell, or at this point I'd be quite content to drop the freedom of action altogether.

 

Not sure if this thread belongs here, or in the general Mega Mod Help.
