 1. What is this?

Simply put, this is a small mod for Baldur's Gate II which restores some of the sounds used in the original Baldur's Gate for the sheer enjoyment of a bit more complete "that BG experience" many seem to be nostalgic about.

In its current version, this mod restores the BG1 spell casting voices, several special sound effects, as well as combat attack and hit sounds.

Plays best with Baldur's Gate Trilogy mod (BGT-WeiDU).

** STRANGELY FAMILIAR VOICES IN YOUR HEAD ** "Nothing to fear from this simple module, and I'll not even hold you in debt... though your conscience knows otherwise."

"Yup, just like all good people."

 2. How to install

Just like any other WeiDU mod: extract the file "Setup-BG1Sounds.exe" and folder "BG1Sounds" to your main Baldur's Gate II directory and then run "Setup-BG1Sounds.exe." You will be prompted to install each of the components.

To uninstall, simply run "Setup-BG1Sounds.exe" again and follow the prompts just like during the installation.

 3. Compatibility

This is a WeiDU-based mod which means it will be compatible with most of the other WeiDU mods out there. There are no known issues so far.

** NOTE ** None of the SPL files are overwritten during the installation process. This mod only patches the existing SPL files to change sound effects. If any other mod overwrites the patched files, these changes will be lost. Therefore, it is best to install this after any other mod which makes changes to spells.

 4. Components

You can install any of these independently:

 Restored BG1 Spell Casting Voices

This component replaces the default Baldur's Gate II spell recitation ("Errare humanus est," "Et tu, Brute, contra Me," "Latin is fun!") with the original Baldur's Gate sinister and ritualistic incantations, including the infamous...

*dark* Hadouken, *intensifying* HAA-DOU-KEN!!! *evil*

** NOTE ** Currently, this only changes gender-specific verbal spell casting. You will (especially if you have installed TobEx) most likely hear unvoiced BG2 spell casting sounds as well (non-gender creatures or some of the quick-cast spells), which will hopefully add a bit of diversity, if not flavor.

 Restored BG1 Spell Sound Effects

Firstly, this component disables the terribad "explosive" sound effect accompanying many of the AoE spells, such as Web and Grease. And secondly, it restores some of the BG1 sound effects to the appropriate spells.

Additionally, this fixes issues with Melf's Acid Arrow and Flame Arrow which in the original BG had incorrectly assigned sounds.

 Restored BG1 Weapon Attack Sounds

Many of the weapon swings and shots in Baldur's Gate II sound much different than in BG1. Flails and ranged weapons are the prime example here. Specifically, crossbows in BG2 miss their soundset alternatives and bows lack the sound effect of drawing.

This component restores all of the BG1 combat attack sounds. Included are slightly altered bowstring drawing and release sounds to better match the pace of BG2 combat animations.

 Restored BG1 Armor Hit Sounds

Much in a similar fashion as the above, this replaces the default BG2 combat hit sounds with their BG1 counterparts. The former tend to be a bit more abrupt, while the latter have more emphasized thumps and that nice "hollow" tinge.

 Restored Chunked Death Sound Effect

If you enable "gore" option you will see a special death animation when the target's HP goes well below zero; however, the related "chunking" sound effect present in the original BG is missing in the sequel.

This component reintroduces the chunked death sound effect to BG2. A small volume gain and delay have been applied so that it can be properly heard during battles.

An alternate version salvaged from the BG1 sound files is available to those of a more... sadistic inclination. This version of the sound effect actually fits chunking animation much better.

 Mute Reputation Loss Sound Effect

In BG2 the default sound played when you lose reputation points is just BLARING loud. You can now choose to disable this sound completely, or only reduce its volume to a more acceptable level.

 Mute Tooltip "Paper" Sound Effect

Some people quickly get fed up with the paper-like sound played when tooltips roll out on the screen. Burn it. Now.

 5. Who is to blame?

Hello, I'm Tash and I originally made this simple WeiDU mod for my own purposes to ease up on the installation process. I soon realized that others may also find this mod just as handy. So, here you go. Enjoy :)
